Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine job requirements
   • Identify job requirements from specifications, job sheets and work instructions
2. Locate and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
3. Identify work health and safety (WHS) requirements, including required personal protective equipment (PPE)
4. Locate wool to be processed
5. Operate wool processing equipment
   • Set machine operating parameters to match job specification
6. Start machinery and associated equipment according to WHS practices and workplace procedures
7. Maintain supply of feed materials as required
8. Remove by-products from machine as required
9. Control process variables to ensure quality outcomes
10. Stop and shut down equipment according to WHS practices and workplace standard procedures
11. Monitor wool processing
    • Identify and interpret product quality standards during all stages of wool processing
12. Visually inspect wool processing to ensure flow and blending consistency are maintained
13. Recognise, isolate and report non-conforming outcomes and quality issues
14. Take and prepare wool samples
15. Consult required personnel to address quality issues
16. Carry out operator maintenance
    • Identify, correct and report minor running problems according to workplace and equipment manufacturer procedures
17. Report major machine, equipment or product faults according to workplace procedures
18. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning according to manufacturer specifications, workplace procedures and scope of own role
19. Dispose of waste materials
    • Apply workplace lot change and run out procedures to keep waste to a minimum
20. Dispose of machine waste of according to recycling, environmental and safety procedures
21. Communicate processing information
    • Complete required records and documentation according to workplace procedures
22. Interpret information regarding production status and problems from other operators, shifts and supervisory personnel
23. Communicate information regarding production status and problems to other operators, shifts and supervisor
